The famous Dragon Bridge in Danang

The best time to visit Danang, depends entirely upon the reason for your visit. This is Vietnam’s third largest city and is situated on the central coast of the country. It is a delightful place and a very busy hub, being as it is, mid way between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The beautiful historical town of Hoi An is on its doorstep, with Hué and Nha Trang reachable as well. It is a quiet town with much of historical and cultural interest in the surrounding areas. Like any city, Danang offers different things at different times of the year. Here are some of the things that suggest the best time to visit Danang, throughout the year.

Danang sits in the Central Coastal Region, where, like most other places in Vietnam, the weather is warm all year round. The tropical climate means that the average annual temperature stays above 29º Celsius. The area has just two seasons each year. Even in the cold winter months between November and January, it remains a lot warmer than most places in the Northern Hemisphere. The weather here is very predicable.

The wet season between September and January, however, needs considering when planning your trip to Danang. The monsoons arrive bringing long periods of very heavy rain. This coupled with typhoons and some flooding can be very disruptive to the area. This time of year sees visitor numbers decrease significantly. The dry season though runs from February to August and the period between the months of February and May has the least humidity. This delightful time of year is perfect for your trip as the regional weather will be superb. There will be constant long, dry, hot days filled with sunshine. These months provide the best time to visit Danang.

The Best Time to Visit Danang for Beach Life

The whole area here is full of glorious beaches and that is of course a big part of Danang’s appeal. The weather is obviously very important for travellers hoping to catch some rays, whilst relaxing on the golden sands. The best time to visit Danang for sunbathing is towards the end of May and even into June. At this time the sun is less fierce. Between June and August the city and its beaches do get very crowded as Vietnamese people take their annual leave.

Public holidays can also interesting whilst in Danang. Christmas and New Year are increasingly being enjoyed by the Vietnamese and not just amongst their Christian community. However, this is a country where the Lunar Calendar dominates. On the 14th day of each lunar month, it is the full moon. On certain months, local people in Danang celebrate with Full Moon Festivals. Some nearby beaches hold Full Moon Parties which are very popular among younger visitors.

Tet, the Vietnamese New Year is a movable celebration, as it follows the lunar annual cycle. When it falls outside the wet season it makes for a great time to be in the country. This is a big thing for the Vietnamese, who leave the big cities in large numbers to return home to their families. Streets and houses will be decorated, special food, like Banh Trung Thu (Moon Cake), will be eaten and the whole country takes on a party mood.
