The Lions have escaped with a 2-1 victory after a plucky Cambodia side pulled a goal back in the second half in their match on Tuesday (Oct 13). Singapore now move into second in Group E. In their 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match at the Singapore Sports Hub, a header in the 16th minute by Faris Ramli gave the Lions the lead by half time. The Lions could have gone 2-0 up at the 43rd minute, but a tamely-struck penalty by Khairul Amri was easily saved by the Cambodian goalkeeper. Khairul Amri also injured his hamstring with the kick, and he was replaced at half-time by Fazrul Nawaz, who promptly capitalised on a Cambodia mistake to put his name on the score sheet at the 48th minute.  However, the 2-goal cushion was halved when Cambodia’s Sos Souhana flicked a cheeky shot into goal to make it 2-1 in the 66th minute. The Lions managed to survive a few more scares and hold on to come away with three points.
